Performing as Principal Harp for Queensland Symphony Orchestra:

Sydney-based songstress Ngaiire is joining forces with Queensland Symphony Orchestra for one incredible night at The Princess Theatre as part of Open Season!

Ngaiire’s sound melds electronic neo-soul, gospel, and big pop sounds, strained through the lens of a First Nations Papua New Guinean songwriter. Her musical career crosses genres and mediums and expectations.

Described by Rolling Stone as “a near perfect slice of hushed future soul, the muted synths cushioning Ngaiire’s endlessly expressive vocal performance”, Ngaiire has an innovative approach that has garnered her 4 ARIA award nominations, 4 National Live Music Awards, 3 FBi Radio SMAC Awards, and the inaugural Australian Women in Music Award for Artistic Excellence. She has collaborated with and joined other groundbreakers of sound on tour such as Sufjan Stevens, Alicia Keys, Flume, Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote and Leon Bridges.

The two will pair up this August for a rare one-off performance, you won’t want to miss it!

This show is presented as part of Open Season - a curated program of music and art running across The Princess Theatre and The Tivoli during winter. Farewell the 30th Festival on a high note! Hear stirring arias from the greatest operas of all time, performed by four brilliant Queensland stars of opera: EVA KONG, soprano, MILIJANA NIKOLIC, Mezzo Soprano, ROSARIO LA SPINA, tenor, JOSE CARBO, baritone. They will be joined by the brilliant ENSEMBLE Q ORCHESTRA.

This gala concert will include excerpts from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, performed by soprano EVA KONG, fresh from starring in the successful Sydney ‘Opera on the Harbour’ season.

Brisbane-raised Opera Australia Music Director TAHU MATHESON will return to conduct once more at the festival that launched his career! Joining him on stage to narrate will be his younger brother TAMA MATHESON, returning to the festival from his theatre career in Europe and the UK.

The much-loved children's book The Lost Thing, by Australian illustrator and author Shaun Tan, has already been turned into an award-winning film. Now it becomes a magical concert experience, thanks to the music of acclaimed presenter and composer Paul Rissmann. This is a spellbinding tale of a boy who discovers a strange creature on the beach, and tries to find a place where it belongs.

This family-friendly concert is the ideal introduction to the Concert Hall. Experience the narrative of this beloved story as it is brought to life by Queensland’s finest musicians, live on stage. The show will also feature great classical music from Star Wars, Flight of the Bumblebee, Hungarian Dances and more, to demonstrate how composers can use an orchestra to create different feelings and sounds. If you’ve ever wanted to wow your kids with a full symphony orchestra, this show is for you.
